Heavitree

My name is Jessica Bradnock and I am the manager of Puffins at Mont Le Grand. I hold at B.Ed. Degree in Primary Jess BradnockEducation with Qualified Teacher Status, specialising in Mathematics. I have been working at Puffins since November 2015.

We are the smallest of the Puffins nurseries and care for up to forty children each day. Both the building and our small, friendly staff team create a homely and welcoming atmosphere. Due to our size, the staff throughout the setting know every family well. We are situated in a two storey Victorian House in a quiet residential area of the city. This great location gives us the opportunity to take the children out of the setting and into the wider community, with local parks, transport links and points of interest in close proximity.

In the nursery, I am supported by a fantastic team and we pride ourselves on our collaborative approach to meeting the needs of all of our children and families, making links with other professionals as needed. The varying skill sets of our staff enable us to provide the best care and education, as detailed below, and we work with them to continuously develop professionally.

SONY DSCOur baby room, for children aged three months to two years, is lead by Sophie, who is working towards a Foundation Degree in Early Years. We accommodate up to six babies per day with a minimum of two staff members. Heuristic and sensory play feature heavily in the room’s planning, as well as a focus on physical development and communication in line with the EYFS documentation.

Katie, who holds a Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Early Years, is our Room Leader in the Bumblebee room (children aged two to three years). Katie and her team plan activities which build on their children’s interests and provide appropriate levels of challenge. The room is resourced to enable a variety of sensory and malleable experiences and quality continuous provision.

The pre-school is lead by Amy who has achieved a Level 3 Diploma in Early years, and she is supported by Jo who holds SONY DSCa BA degree in Early Childhood Studies. The team in Pre-school have adopted an ‘in the moment’ approach to planning, which is child-led and provides quality focus weeks for every child, allowing for planning, assessing and teachable moments to link continuously. Independence is encouraged throughout the day. The pre-school creates strong links between school settings ahead of transition and the staff work on school readiness in a variety of ways to prepare the children for the best possible outcome.

 Mont Le Grand Garden

Our outdoor learning environment is used by every age group throughout the day, taking advantage of the ability to explore and play whatever the weather. The garden includes decked areas, heuristic plants, ride-on toys, a forest area, and the children’s favourite – our mud kitchen!
