Health and Safety

The welfare and safety of children is paramount to Puffins. All of our staff undergo rigorous initial and continued training in areas such as health & safety, safeguarding, food hygiene, first aid, manual handling, infection control, risk assessments and administering medication. We employ a Health & Safety consultancy firm who support our management of Health & Safety, and all of our settings are registered and inspected by OFSTED.

We have thorough policies and procedures which are regularly updated to ensure that we comply with the most current legislation. All of our staff undergo checks with the Criminal Records Bureau and references and employment checks are made during our recruitment process. Recruitment staff are also fully trained in safe recruitment procedures for employing people who work with young children.

We employ a maintainence team who work tirelessly to ensure that all of our settings are fully supported and continually upgraded, and staff implement systems to regularly sterilise and check all toys and equipment.

Within our settings, we work to the Welfare Requirements that govern all Early Years settings, and ensure that there are high levels of staffing ratios in each room, with additional support staff to help with mealtimes, cleaning and cover of holidays and absence.
